Alexa Baldwin

Theater director, art instructor, mask maker, Spanish teacher, and Pilates instructor. Armenta co-founder the artistic research, production group Mascara Entre Sombras in 1980. In Mexico and United States, she has directed multiple theatrical productions, mask-making and art projects. Armenta studied with renowned mask maker Donatto Satori in Padua Italy. She has led workshops in various communities in Chicago, San Antonio, Northern California and throughout Mexico. In 1995, Mascara Entre Sombras received a grant from the Fund for Culture (of the Rockefeller Foundation) to bring the production “La Burla Sonriente” (The Smiling Mockery) to perform for the Day of the Dead celebration at the Mission Cultural Center in San Francisco as well in Ukiah, California. In 1997, Grace Hudson Museum invite Alexa Armenta to present an “Homenaje a Friday Kahlo” a multidisciplinary artistic performance for Day of the Dead, with accompanying lecture by Gregorio Luke of the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles. In 1997she taught a mask and puppet workshop at Sonoma State University’s Hutchins School. Armenta completed a three year tenure as California arts Council Artist in Residence. She Served Mendocino County Mural artistic coordinator in 2002. Since 2017 - 2023 she has led the students creation of 17 art murals in different locals schools in Ukiah Ca. Alexa has received seventeen grands for a variety of community-based art projects. In 2015 Displayed her masks at the Corner Gallery in Ukiah Ca. Her giant puppets has been performing for Day of Dead at the Mendocino Collage and multiple schools in Ukiah. In June 2012 her giant puppets were called to participate in a movie, “Centurion” directed by Dana Gonzalez. Currently she is working for SPACE for the Art Exploration activity, she is working part - time at Brookside Retirement Residence of Ukiah as arts a fitness instructor; as well in Ukiah Valley Athletic Club a Pilates instructor.
