Danceology–This Body Dances!
May 17 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Danceology–This Body Dances! is directed by Aisha Walls & Laurel Near and will have three shows, Friday May 17, 7pm and Saturday, May 18, 3pm & 7pm.

Come enjoy over 80 students, ages 8-young adult, performing a SPACE-style original show with an energetic and powerful message of health and well-being all through the lens of movement and song. The storyline takes place in a classroom setting wherein various topics are discussed, including human physiology, anatomy, body-mind connection, healthy food and wellness.  Material used for this show draws from both current science and student’s interviews. The theme gives room to interject humor, interesting facts and misconceptions about the body. There is also spoken word about our personal experience being in our body, and dancing with our body. Pieces also address how our body defines us, and better yet, how it does not define us.

The Danceology dances and songs draw from a variety of styles; hip-hop, pop, classical, Motown and world music. The choreographers have each chosen a system of the body including the Skeletal System, The Cardiovascular System, the Central Nervous System, the Endocrine and more. Teachers include Aisha Walls, Amanda Rosenberg, Kira Gibson, Nataile Meuniot, Xanta Diamond, Mackenzie Bell and David Post.

Tickets available at Mendocino Book Company, SPACE Box Office and online at spacperformingarts.org Adults: $15. Youth 18 & under: $10.
